EFCC tells court Binance executive rejects State House Clinic

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) told the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Wednesday that detained Binance Holdings Limited executive Tigran Gambaryan refused medical intervention by the State House Clinic.

EFCC legal advisor, Ekele Iheanacho, stated this while opposing Gambaryan’s second bail application filed by his lawyer, Mark Mordi (SAN).

Iheanacho, who drew the court’s attention to the State House Clinic’s medical report, argued that Gambaryan’s ill health was not as bad as portrayed.

He said the report showed the accused was dissatisfied with the medical care provided by the hospital and refused it.

The lawyer objected to the bail application and urged the court to reject the fresh application.

He said the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, wrote to the management of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), requesting Gambaryan’s medical records.

He said that the response from the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) was received by the NSA on August 29 with attached reports from Nizamiye Hospital, among others.

“The report indicated that Gambaryan had received adequate medical attention from the NCoS and had been taken to several hospitals, including the State House Clinic,” Iheanacho said.

Earlier, Mordi had urged the court to grant his client bail on relaxed terms or release him for six weeks on health grounds.

He argued that Gambaryan’s health challenges could not be adequately addressed in Nigeria.

The executive and his company face money laundering charges.

Binance is also facing tax evasion allegations filed by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
