Eguavoen names Ilechukwu, Ogunmodede and his new technical team at the Super Eagles

Super Eagles interim coach Augustine Eguavoen has reinforced his coaching staff with notable figures from the domestic league to assist in the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.

Eguavoen has called up Enugu Rangers coach Fidelis Ilechukwu who guided his side to victory in Nigeria’s premier league last season and Daniel Ogunmodede of Remo Stars who led his team to a commendable second-place finish.

His inclusion is expected to bring valuable tactical knowledge and familiarity with local talent.

In addition to Ilechukwu and Ogunmodede, the technical team includes Tomaz Zorec, a fitness coach from Slovenia, as well as Olatunji Baruwa, who will oversee the goalkeepers, and match analyst Eboboritse Uwejamomere.

This diverse group will bring a balanced approach to the Super Eagles’ preparations.

The team will assemble in Uyo on Monday to begin preparations for the crucial match against the Benin Republic Cheetahs scheduled for Saturday at 5pm at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.

Following this, the team will travel to Kigali for their second match against the Amavubi (Bees) of Rwanda on Tuesday, with the game set to kick off at 3:00 pm local time (2:00 pm in Nigeria) at the Amahoro Stadium.

These matches are crucial for Nigeria, which is aiming to secure a place in the 2025 AFCON tournament.
