Eid-El-Fitr: FG declares public holidays on Thursday and Friday, urges unity – THISAGE

The Federal Government has declared Thursday, March 19 and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-el-Fitr, urging Nigerians to embrace unity and peaceful coexistence.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the holidays on behalf of the Federal Government in a statement issued by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, on Tuesday.

Congratulating Muslim faithful for successfully completing the Ramadan fast, the minister urged them to uphold the virtues of love, generosity, peace, tolerance and sacrifice cultivated during the holy month.

Tunji-Ojo also urged Nigerians to use the festive season to pray for national peace, unity and sustained prosperity, stressing the importance of collective responsibility in nation building.

He also encouraged citizens to celebrate in moderation and extend acts of kindness to the less privileged, in keeping with the spirit of the season.

Reaffirming the federal government’s commitment to promoting unity, the minister stressed that peaceful coexistence remains fundamental to the stability and development of the country.
