Training 10,000 youth in digital skills may have seemed ambitious, but President Boakai’s first State of the Union address earlier this year included this proclamation, and indeed, he has delivered.
It took longer than the six months he mentioned in his address, but logistics were finally in place last month, and teachers were recruited earlier and taught. Students applied online, and 45 centers were set up throughout all 15 counties to serve as digital hubs and deliver the two-week intensive digital training.
The centers were academic institutions making available their buildings and skills taught were part of a careful curriculum designed to impart the necessary digital skills to equip our students for active participations in the emerging global landscape of digital transformation.
$250,000.00 USD seed money has been set aside for participant with brilliant ideas to pursue their business plans. Recipients will go through rigorous vetting process and are urged to collaborate.
The President’s agenda includes equipping half a million youth in the next six years.
