Energy communication researcher, Dr. Adeola Yusuf, Thies Asharami Square Dialogue on Gas

The researcher of the energy communication of Nigeria and the team leader of the Africa platforms, Adeola Yusuf, Ph.D, was enrolled for the title of the Asharami Square 2.0, an initiative of the Sahara group aimed at promoting sustainability through effective media support.

The Sahara group, which announced it in a declaration, argued that the second edition of Asharami Square, its leading leadership platform, would have explored important gas options while Africa seeks various opportunities to improve access to energy and safety throughout the continent.

“Dr. Adeola Yusuf, head of the team at Platforms Africa, will explore the role of the media in modeling the awareness, the moderation of politics and the prevention of disinformation and washing of the green,” said the oil giant in the declaration signed by Bethel Obioma, Head, Corporate Communications at Sahara Group.

Dr. Yusuf, researcher of media roles in energy and development, is a member of the Thomson Reuters Foundation scheme on illicit financial relations in Africa, who led the Africa platforms to emerge the second classified for the media of the Nigerian content of the year 2025 organized by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB).

He would have spoken to the themed event “exploit the gas for the sustainable future of Africa”. Obioma said, adding that the role of media agenda sets makes it essential for professionals to understand how Africa should engage and act on important issues such as energy transition, access to energy/safety, environmental management and sustainable development.

“The media should be equipped to play an active role in the formulation and execution of policies. Asharami Square offers participants access to subject experts, facilitating significant conversations that will eventually help improve relationships and promote better understanding,” he added.

Ejiro Gray, director, governance and sustainability, Sahara group, said that attention to gas is fundamental for Africa at the moment, given the key role he is playing to improve access to clean and reliable energy throughout Africa.

The main address will be delivered by Dr. Justice Derefaka, Group Asset Manager, PSC Asset Group B at NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services (Nuims). With over two decades of oil experience, gas, infrastructure policy and sustainability leadership, Dr. Derefaka will share insights on the unlocking of the potential of African gas through innovation and public-private collaboration.

The event will also present a panel with illustrious experts.

Dr. Adeola Yusuf, head of the team at Platforms Africa, will explore the role of the media in modeling awareness, moderation of politics and the prevention of disinformation and washing of the Greens. Ijeoma Isichei, commercial director of the Sahara group, will highlight the gas as a fuel for bridges and an engine of integration and cooperation of the regional market.

The panel will also present Olurotimi Famoroti, CEO, First Independent Power Limited (FIPL), which will examine the potential of gas in improving the reduction of poverty, the stimulation of the growth of SMEs and access to electricity, especially in underground areas. Mariah Lucciano-Gabriel, head, integrated gas initiatives, Asharami’s energy will talk about long-term strategies to achieve a mix of sustainable energy and the role of gas in guaranteeing the future of Africa energy.

Finally, Mobolaji Sunmon, Lead, Midstream and Power at Fidelity Bank PLC, will face the mobilization of innovative investments and financing models for the downsizing of gas infrastructures in emerging markets. The panel will be moderated by Omobolanle Adesulu, Head, Management Information Systems, Sahara Group.
