Extortion, protest will not stop the transformation of Abuja

The Minister of Federal Capital Region (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has vowed that no extruded extract or protest will not thwart its commitment to provide infrastructure and development for the Abuja population.

Wike made a declaration on Tuesday during the inauguration of the Air Phase 2 project in the Capital City.

Responding to a report on the alleged debt owed to the “local contractor,” the Minister rejected the claim as fraud. “Let anyone say I give them a contract carrying a document,” he said.

He accused that some civil servants produced debt illegally by providing contracts without appropriate approval. “Many of the so -called debt are produced by civil servants who sit in their offices that provide N10 million, N15 million, or N20 million contracts without ministerial approval. Now they want to blackmail the minister to pay. Of course, that will not happen. Nobody can intimidate me,” said Wike.

The minister described the pushback as an effort to corrupt interests to thwart his reform. “This is corruption that resists again against my reform, but I will beat him,” he added.

Highlighting his achievements, Wike revealed that the FCT revenue generated internally (IGR) had increased sharply from N9 billion every month before his term of office to be more than N30 billion at this time. He argues that such fiscal caution allows Abuja’s new infrastructure project.

“If we are not wise, how can we fund the large -magnitude infrastructure that we assign today? Those who protest are not native contractors. Look at their faces, do they look like those who build the path we assign? They are sponsored by those who benefit from past corruption,” he said.

Wike also criticized the wasteful expenditure habits from the previous administration, noting that the projects left behind were caused by funds transferred to unnecessary costs. “The Abuja projects left behind are the result of funds transferred to unnecessary costs such as frequent foreign trips and procurement of goods such as computers,” he said.

Reject the idea that leadership must focus on popularity, the Minister emphasizes the results of approval. “This is not a beauty contest. I am not here to be loved. I am here to work. Bring love and go, I want the results. The only love I want is for residents to feel the impact of governance: roads, schools, hospitals, water, and security. That is development,” Wike stressed.

Contemplating his political journey, he emphasized his independence and durability. “From my days as chairman of the council until now, I have never allowed anyone to dictate me. Pray 24 hours, it will not change anything. What is right will be done, and what is wrong will not pass. Abuja must change, and we will change it,” he defended.

Wike concluded by ensuring that his government would be remembered to restore order, block financial leaks, and invest in projects that directly enhance the lives of the population. “When I leave the office, history will record my administration as one of the resting discipline, block waste, and direct resources into real development for the Federal Capital Region,” he said.
