The six were in the south -western region of Nigeria shared a total of N299.2 billion by the Federation account allocation committee (FAAC) between January and March 2025, which represent a strong increase compared to the same period of 2024.

The data obtained by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) revealed that all six states – Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Osun and Ekiti – have revoked higher allocations in Q1 2025, in line with the national trend upwards in the disbursements.

The platform collected that at national level, the 36 states shared N1,78 trillion in the first quarter of 2025, compared to N1.27 trillion in the first quarter of 2024, a 40% increase on an annual basis.

The breaking of allocation revealed that between January and March, Lagos led when he obtained N76.4 billion for three months in 2024 and obtained N123.7 billion for three months in 2025, increase of 61.80%.

Ekiti shared n20.7 billion for three months in 2024 and N28.2 billion for three months in 2025 with an increase of 36.23%.

Despite the increase in funding, many residents say that the impact has just heard in their communities.

“Enter everywhere, projects anywhere” – citizens reacts

Homer, a marine engineer based in Lagos, expressed frustration for what he called a “disconnection between funds and development”.

“There is money everywhere on paper, but on the ground, we still face bad roads, poor hospitals and overcrowded schools,” said this on Xandle.

In Abeokuta, a school owner, Charles Duke, claimed that the growing allocations were drained by the growing general expenses.

“Most of this increase went to pay the minimum salary and the inflated cost of capital projects. There is very little for a real impact,” he said.

Some Nigerians have launched the alarm for the management of funds.

Public finance analysts have requested an improvement in transparency and monitoring of state budgets led by citizens.

They say that the current revenue growth rate represents a rare opportunity for governments to invest in basic infrastructure, but it fears that it can be squandered.

“States have no excuses now,” said economist Tayo Lawal. “With such enormous allocations, people expect to see the results: the rehabilitated schools, the health centers that work, the fixed roads. Otherwise, it is just another missed opportunity.”

Despite almost n300 billion in three months, critics say that most of the South -Vest still prepares with the same old problems: drilapidated classrooms, poor health access and rural roads underdeveloped.

As Faac disbursements continue to increase, citizens ask for more transparency, less waste and urgent investments in infrastructure that touches life.

“We have to start seeing figures who reflect in our daily life, not only in the news titles,” said a resident of Akure.
