The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved 17 subscription companies to provide group life insurance for the president, his deputy, Kashim Shettimo, the ministers, as well as the head of the Federation’s civil service.
The head of the Federation service, Didi Walson-Jack, revealed it to the correspondents of the State Chamber after the meeting of the Council chaired on Monday by President Bola Tinubu.
He said that the regime underlines the importance that the president attributes to the well -being of workers, in particular to federal public employees.
“I have the privilege of presenting the approval of the Federal Executive Council as regards the group’s life guarantee regime. This scheme underlines the importance that the administration of President Bola Tinubu has placed on the well -being of the staff, in particular the well -being of the federal public official.
“The group life insurance regime is a scheme on the basis of which the federal government has eliminated a policy of life on each public employee. And this means that if the unfortunate death accident occurs, the relatives of the deceased public official have a benefit to help the family block the family at that moment of loss.
“This year, the group life guarantee regime covers the main government officials, who include the president, the vice -president, the head of the staff, the secretary of the government of the Federation, the honorable ministers, the head of the Civil Service of the Federation, the permanent secretaries of the ministers of the Federal Government and the agencies financed by the Treasury. They are the ministerial departments and the agencies and the agencies e
“The regime also covers the main military agencies such as the Nigerian immigration service, the Nigerian security body and the Nigerian correction service, the Federal Fire Fire Service, the Federal Road Safety Corps, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and the Office of the National Security Consultant.
“The group life insurance regime is annual and today’s approval was for the year of the 2025/2026 policy. The policy would start from the date of payment of the premium to the subscribers in line with the policy without premium.
“I just like to pass you quickly. I would simply like to take you through the actual approval for today. The approval for today was for the appointment of 17 insurance subscribers for insurance coverage on group life and for the year 2025/2026, as I had mentioned previously.
“The premium is paid to the insurance companies for the duration of 12 months. So this policy will expire next year. I just like to say that as as this policy has existed in all this administration and even the previous administrations, we discover that not too many people know the policy and therefore, from my office, we have also planned to carry out a awareness, which will come very soon.
“But I am so happy to have the opportunity to talk about this policy and I ask that, please, it would be very nice to give this wide coverage, because this policy affects every public employee, including most of you sitting here.
“So, in this note, I would like to thank you and say that this administration has placed the well -being of the public official very well, so that no family of public disease officers should be left without rescue,” he said
On Monday, the Council also approved the creation of a medi-point, Medipool system, designed to reduce drug prices, improve the availability of medicines and support the growth of local pharmaceutical production.
The minister coordinated for health and social well -being, Professor Ali Pate, told the correspondents of the State House that Medipool is a group purchase organization for competitive prices and to be a supplier of essential medicines and health products throughout Nigeria.
Pate said that the approval is aligned with wider government efforts, including an executive order to remove VAT rates and import on pharmaceutical inputs, to support local production and guarantee a fair price of essential medicines.
This initiative provides for the bulk purchase of Nigerian manufacturing diagnostics and diagnostic kit, which should lower prices and make essential drugs more convenient and accessible to the Nigerians, also encouraging the growth of the national pharmaceutical industry.
