A declaration signed on Wednesday by the director of corporate communications and relations with the media of Nita, Hajiya Hadiza Umar, confirmed the figures, noting that 754,629 complaints were officially recorded.

Umar also praised Google, Microsoft and Tiktok for their continuous conformity to the practice code of Nigeria for interactive platforms of IT services and intermediaries.

He said: “Reports on compliance provides valuable information on the efforts of the platforms to deal with users’ safety problems in line with the practice code and the guidelines of the platform community.

“The presentation of these relationships marks a significant step towards the promotion of a safer and more responsible digital environment for Nigerian users. It also demonstrates the commitment of the platforms in guaranteeing a safe and reliable online environment for everyone.

“This result reflects the provisions of the practice code, which requires that the wide service platforms are recorded in Nigeria and respect the relevant laws, including the fulfillment of their tax obligation, while strengthening the commitment to online safety for the Nigerians.

“While Nita recognizes these commendable efforts, we underline that the construction of a safer digital space requires prolonged collaboration and involvement between all the interested parties.

“We are busy working with sector actors, civil society and regulatory partners to further strengthen user security measures, improve digital literacy and promote trust and transparency in the digital ecosystem of Nigeria.”
