The federal government declared on Wednesday 1 October 2025, as a public holiday to commemorate the 65th anniversary of Nigeria’s independence.

Interior Minister, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who made the declaration on behalf of the federal government, congratulated all the Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora on the historical occasion.

Tunji-Ojo, in a statement by the permanent secretary, Ministry of the Interior, dr. Magdalene Ajani, has unjected citizens to continue supporting the patriotic spirit, unity and resilience that supported the nation from independence in 1960.

He urged the Nigerians to further maintain the trust in the renewed agenda of the hope of President Bola Tinubu, who was anchored to national rebirth, economic transformation and collective prosperity.

The minister expressed the trust that, with the cooperation of all the Nigerians, the country would have continued to become stronger in peace, progress and development.

He wanted the Nigerians to be happy and memorable the celebration of the day of independence of 2025.
