FG, Edo, Kano Govts launched a joint investigation into a murder of 16 North Mosquisrs in Uromi

The Federal Government and the State of Edo have jointly launched a fact-finding committee to investigate the murder of 16 North Mosquers in Uromi, Edo State, last month.

This initiative was revealed on Thursday by the Monday Governor Okpebholo during a meeting with the Deputy Governor of the State Kano Aminu Gwarzo in Benin City.

Deputy Governor Gwarzo led a high -powered delegation from Kano, mandated by Governor ABBA Yusuf to reveal the truth behind the tragic murder that claimed the lives of citizens from five regional regions in the state.

According to a statement issued by Ibrahim Shuibu, Head of the Press Secretary for Deputy Governor of Kano, the delegation included respected numbers such as Emir Rano, Ambassador Mohammad Isa Umar; several commissioners; Chairperson of the Bunkure Regional Government Area; and other senior officials.

When receiving a report compiled by the Kano Team, the Governor of Okpebholo expressed his deep concern and reaffirmed the government’s determination to ensure justice.

“This incident has opened our eyes, and we are ready to overcome a wider national problem to make life better for all Nigerians,” Okpebholo said. “The president is not happy with what has happened. He is determined to see justice served.”

The governor emphasized the collaborative nature of the investigation, which stated that the committee determined by the Federal and state government would thoroughly examine the causes of attacks and provide lasting solutions to prevent such violence in the future.

“The report that you have sent will guide our steps. We want to be transparent, and we will provide information to the public about the progress of the committee,” Okpebholo added. “Edo is a country that loves peace, and we respect the lives and contributions of all Nigerians who live among us.”

Deputy Governor Gwarzo thanked the Edo state government for his responsive action after the incident and called for an open and responsible process.

“You promise us justice, and we believe you will give. Sixteen we die – men, women and youth. We owe the truth and certainty to their families that their death will not be in vain,” Gwarzo said.

Present at the meeting were the main state officials, including Deputy Governor of State Edo Dennis Idahosa, speakers thanks to the Edo State Council, Agbebaku, and the Head of Security from the two states.

After the meeting, the Governor of Okpebholo and Kano’s delegation traveled to Uromi to meet with members of the Hausa community and assess the situation directly.

Efforts to find joint facts are expected to offer clarity, foster cooperation between countries, and build trust among the community when the government is trying to overcome the roots of ethnic motivated violence.
