FG, Kaduna Revenue Service to collaborate in sharing expatriate shares

Abuja (basic reporter) The permanent secretary, the Ministry of the Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, has reaffirmed the commitment of the federal government to improve the administration of the expatriate share through the processes led by technology and the collaboration between agencies.

Dr. Ajani, who represented the honorable interior minister, dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, said this Tuesday while received a delegation from the Kaduna State Revenue Service, led by its executive president, companion Jerry Adams, during a courtesy visit to the Ministry in Abuja.

By welcoming the delegation, Dr. Ajani praised their efforts to commit themselves with the parties concerned in issues relating to the expatriate share. It has observed that effective management of expatriate data requires the contribution of all the main actors, adding that the electronic reforms under the Ministry are already revealing valuable insights on activities previously without documents in the sector.

“Even as a country, we cannot yet fully affirm the exact number of expatriates in Nigeria. However, with the deployment of our electronic platforms and the period of amnesty granted to expatriates to regularize their stay, we are optimistic in reaching greater accuracy and transparency,” he said.

The permanent secretary explained that while the Ministry is open to sharing data with other government institutions, this commitment must align with existing laws, given the main mandate of the Ministry as a security agency rather than an organ that generates entrances.

He underlined the need to establish a joint technical team including officials of the Ministry of the Interior and the Kaduna State Revenue Board to define the scope of the information requested and the methods for the exchange of legitimate data.

“This is a government commitment to government. We are ready to collaborate, but it must be done responsible and in accordance with the security protocols,” said dr. Ajani.

The meeting underlined the determination of the federal government to strengthen transparency, compliance and efficiency in the administration of expatriate shares through innovative and institutional partnerships.

A high -level delegation from the service of state revenues paid the courtesy and work visit to the Ministry of the Interior to discuss the areas of mutual interest and strengthen cooperation on the management of expatriate data and related services.

Previously, the executive president of the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (Kadir). Comrade Jerry Adams, outlined key issues that require urgent attention, including the challenge of incomplete or inaccurate reports of expatriates, who work or reside in the state of Kaduna.

He underlined the importance of the accurate sharing of data, proposing a closer collaboration with the relevant units of the Ministry and the possible implementation of API connections to improve the exchange of information in real time.

Other raised points included the reconciliation of the revenue for the services rendered by agencies under the ministry, in particular the immigration service of Nigeria, the security body and the civil protection of Nigeria and the Nigerian correction service, from January to August.

The executive president also explained that the visit was not only to present concerns, but also to build lasting relationships with the Ministry for the future networking and sharing of knowledge. He expressed appreciation for the permanent secretary for having received the delegation in a short notice, reaffirming the trust in the Ministry’s ability to face the issues with equity and speed.

At the meeting there are Okuboere S. Mukah (Mrs) Director, Department of Citizenship & Business, Assistant Controller General Visa and Residency, Franca Nwanneka, which represents the general controller of the immigration service.
