FG: no child should complete primary education under 10 years

The Federal Ministry of Education has dispelled a misleading relationship, claiming that the minimum age for admission to the Junior 1 secondary school (JSS1) was collected at 12 years of age.

On Friday in a declaration in Abuja by the director of the Ministry’s press, Mrs. Folasade Boriowo, the ministry said that the relationship was completely inaccurate.

He added that he did not come from any official source and did not reflect government policy.

He clarified: “To avoid doubt, the minimum age for admission to JSS1 remains 10 years. Consequently, no child should complete the primary education of less than 10.”

Boriowo urged the interested parties of the public and education to ignore any contrary statements.

The declaration also mentioned the Minister of Education, dr. Tunji Alausa, who reiterated that the minimum age prescribed for admission to the Nigerian universities is 16 years old.

He stressed that politics was coherent, not negotiable and applied regardless of how much a student completed secondary school.

“The Ministry claims that this point of reference for age guarantees the cognitive and emotional readiness of students for greater academic involvement,” added the declaration.

The Ministry of Federal Education has urged public, educational institutions and the media to always ask for clarifications from official sources before acting or publishing un verified information.
