The police command in the state of Kano confirmed the death of five people from an explosive military mortar bomb in the state.
The police confirmed that the military vehicle came from the state of Yobe when the explosion occurred.
Speaking with journalists, the police commissioner Ibrahim Adamu Bakori said he was called on an emergency explosion in the area and arrived on the spot shortly after the explosion. He said that the explosion may have originated from a military order that is believed to have been managed or transported improperly.
He added that on arrival in the hospital, five people were confirmed death, while another 10 were receiving care.
The police commissioner declared from the preliminary investigations, the vehicle came from Yobe, adding that although the question is under investigation, it was informed that the vehicle transported the bomb was a truck of the State of Yobe.
“I received a call that had happened something serious. When I arrived, I discovered that it was a suspected explosion: perhaps a military mortar bomb. Fifteen people were injured and, unfortunately, five died,” he said.
He added that the victims were quickly evacuated, with some taken in nearby hospitals.
“The situation is still under investigation, but we understand that the vehicle involved could come from the State of Yobe.
“The preliminary results suggest that the explosive material was transported by a trailer, but it is not clear if the vehicle transported military personnel or contractors,” he added.
He said the authorities have yet to confirm the exact cause of the explosion or the property of explosives.
“The security agencies are currently investigating the accident. The facts will be clearer once the investigations are completed,” observed the commissioner, exhorting the public to remain calm.
