For the second time in 2025, Nigeria meets the OPEC output quota of 1.5 million bpd

For the second time in 2025, Nigeria has fulfilled the average daily crude oil production quota by the organization of the State of Petroleum Exporting (OPEC).

Ripples Nigeria reported that Nigerian production increased to 1.505 million barrels per day (BPD) in June, up from the production volume of 1.453 million BPD recorded in May according to the latest monthly oil market report (Momr) by OPEC released in Vienna, Austria on Tuesday, July 1525.

According to OPEC, this figure, sourced from direct communication with Nigerian authority, is an increase of 3.58 percent, and the country’s highest output since January 2025.

Since the beginning of 2025, Nigeria has struggled to meet the quota of OPEC, a development that threatens the 2025 country’s budget compared to 1.5MBPD.

While Nigeria started the year with an explosion, produced an average of 1,539MBPD in January 2025, however, production declined to 1.46MBPD in February, under the OPEC quota, signaling a decline of 4.8 percent.

This story is no different in March because the country produced under the OPEC quota again, because output decreased to 1.40MBPD.

Oil cartel said data from secondary sources placed Nigerian crude oil production at 1.547 million BPD in June – an increase of 1.24 percent from 1,528 million BPD recorded in May.

With the current level of production, the Global Oil Organization said Nigeria maintains its position as a leading African oil producer, followed by Algeria, which records the output of 927,000 BPD.

Quoting secondary sources, OPEC said “Total production of crude oil DOC averaged 41.56 MB/day in June 2025, which is 349 TB/d higher, BU”.

On July 6, OPEC and its allies (OPEC+) decided to increase production by 548,000 BPD in August.

Oil cartel said the participating countries “will implement a production adjustment of 548 thousand barrels per day in August 2025 from July 2025 the level of production required”.
