Former Avvoy Blasts APC, PDP on abandoned national projects

The former Nigerian ambassador in the Philippines and the veteran issuer, Dr. Yemi Farounbi, condemned the recurring culture of abandonment or sabotage of government projects and policies simply because they were started by political rivals, describing the practice as “betrayal wrapped in a party flag”.

In a declaration on Saturday entitled “The destruction policy must end”, Faroubi has complained that politicians often boast of opposites to the presidents or policies not for the benefit of the nation but purely to mark partisan points.

He observed that some political actors had openly admitted that their hostility towards the Administration Goodluck Jonathan never concerned national interest, but to ensure that the other party failed.

“Every time the leaders kill a good idea to deny a victory at their rivals, they don’t play chess: they play Russian roulette with the life of 200 million people,” said Faroubi.

“And unlike the game, the bullet always finds its goal: in our dilapidated hospitals, in our dark roads and in the wasted years of our unemployed young people.”

Citing abandoned projects such as the Lagos – Ibadan highway, the reforms of the blocked power sector and the delayed security initiatives, Faroubi said that both the Democratic Party of the people (PDP) and the all progressive (APC) congress have been guilty of the same destructive rivalry model.

He underlined that the real victims of this political game were the normal Nigerians, who suffered from streets full of holes, persistent blackouts and lost opportunities, while politicians enjoyed their allowances and derives the belief of the masses.

“A road does not know if it was commissioned by APC or PDP before carrying the traders on the market. At a work refinery it doesn’t matter which party to cut the ribbon before feeding the nation,” he added. “Good policies should be above small rivalries.”

Faroubi asked for leaders who would support policies for the benefit of the Nigerians, regardless of which party he proposed them, warning that history did not remember sabotitioners as intelligent strategists, but as “reckless men and women who exchanged the progress of a nation for the thrill of a political point”.
