At least four people have been confirmed dead in a cholera outbreak in Yola-North Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The chairman of the council, Jibrin Ibrahim, disclosed this while visiting the victims at the Infectious Diseases Centre in Yola on Sunday.
He said the outbreak was recorded in Alkalawa, Ajiya and Limawa districts in the area.
The chairman added that currently 36 other people are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the area.
Ibrahim said: “The situation is dire, with more than 40 cases reported, and sadly, four lives have been lost.

“However, I am pleased to report that a large number of victims have been stabilized and are receiving medical care from our dedicated health workers.”
The chairman praised the rapid response of health workers, the Red Cross and international partners in containing the outbreak.
He linked the suspected outbreak to contaminated water due to flooding in several areas.
“We urge the public to maintain environmental cleanliness, drink clean water, and wash vegetables and fruit before consuming them,” Ibrahim appealed.
The latest outbreak brings the total number of suspected cholera cases in Nigeria to 7,663 in 280 LGAs across 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) this year, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
