The suspended governor of the state of spinners, Siminalayi Fubara, said he was not anxious to return to office, almost two months after President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in the state -rich state.
Fubara made the observations on Sunday to a song of songs in honor of the deceased statesman and leader of Pan Niger Delta Forum (Pandef), Edwin Clark, in Port Harcourt.
“Have you wondered, do you think you are interested in returning there?” He asked Fubara, addressing the public. “
If I had my way, I would say that it is. This is God’s will. I don’t want to go back there. My spirit left that place. “
The event took a political turning point while the members of the Senior Forum of the rivers made homage to Fubara, referring to him as the legitimate governor and condemning his suspension.
But the upset leader moved away from the comments, describing them as personal and counterproductive for peace efforts.
Fubara warned that these observations could worsen tensions in the state and said that attention should remain on the celebration of Clark’s inheritance, not political protests.
The governor’s comments arrive in the midst of a prolonged brawl of power between him and Nyesom Wike, minister of the territory of the federal capital (FCT), who began shortly after Fubara took charge in 2023. The efforts of President Tinubu to mediate the dispute led to a short respite in December 2024.
However, the situation intensified again in March 2025 when the president suspended Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu and the entire house of assembly of the state of the rivers.
Tinubu has appointed the IBOK-ETE IBAS retired naval official as the only administrator, effectively positioning the state under federal control.
Since then the controversial decision has aroused fireworks, with 11 governors of the Democratic Party Peoples (PDP) who challenge the president’s action to the Supreme Court.
The National Assembly, in turn, urged the Court to reject the case, describing it as frivolous and looking for a penalty of n1 billion against the governors of the PDP.
In April, the relationships according to which Fubara had met President Tinubu in London emerged in an attempt to solve the impasse, but the result of that meeting remains unclear.
