Fulham snatch late point against Brighton … Decent exit for Bassey, Iwobi

Nigeria’s duo, Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi, appeared at the opening of Fulham’s Premier League against Brighton.

Brighton took the lead in the 55th minute. The seagulls received a penalty after the lack of Sander Berge on Georginio Rutter.

Matthew O’Riley step forward and put it beyond Bernd Leno. The game seemed that Brighton was going to get away with the three points until Super Sub Rodrigo Muniz equaled in the detention time to break the hearts of local fans.

The objective came from a corner that Lewis Dunk could not clearly clear. He touched the ball, fell to Muniz, who shot her to the lower corner, without giving Bart Verbruggen any chance.

Brighton was the best side. They had 10 shots with four in the target and an expected value (XG) of 1.48, while Fulham had 0.76 xg, seven shots and two in the target.

Super Eagles midfielder, Iwobi, was decent. He played 66 minutes.

The 29 -year -old ran a distance of 7.1 kilometers with a maximum speed of 29.8 km/h. He made three passes to the final third, delivered two precise crosses and completed two long balls.

Bassey operated on the left side and played the full 90 minutes. Covered a distance of 9.8 km, running at a speed of 32.4 km/h.

It was first category in the attack, providing nine passes to the final third, three precise long balls and completing a successful drip. Defensively, he was decent, making two authorizations and four ball recoveries.

After the raffle, Fulham chief coach, Marco Silva, described him as a dramatic draw:

“Another dramatic game outside the home against Brighton. Last season it was a late goal from them, this season for us. Three seasons ago it was the same, we scored at the last minute of the game too.”

It went further to describe the game as balanced, showing content with a point:

“It was not the most surprising game of both sides in terms of performance. The game was very balanced in the first half. I think our first 25 minutes were at a good level with some dangerous moments, although there are no clear opportunities.

“The second half began in the same way. The only difference that had an impact on the game was the penalty.

“Until then, the game was more or less the same, very balanced. The penalty changed the dynamics of the game and increased their trust. They had some offensive transitions and counterattacks, while we had good opportunities.

“We show the spirit of struggle and the belief that we were able to at least match. Looking in general the game, I think the raffle was a deserved point for both teams. I think it is a fair result.”

On the contrary, Brighton’s coach, Fabian Hürzeler, did not like the result, since he felt that his team should have reached victory:

“Surely it feels painful, but I think it is important to remove positive things: we play a really good game, we defended very well.

“For its objective, it is more about avoiding granting the corner. Sometimes the teams have a player in the right place and that is what happened: we could not defend it. We have to accept it.

“Before its goal, I don’t think Fulham had a really clear opportunity, and in the second half we should have scored a second goal and the game would have ended.”

“That is football. It doesn’t feel good now, but we have to be positive about the many good things we did and work to improve for next week.”
