The advisory council of Governance has solved the fracture between President Bola Tinubu and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Oell of the State of Lagos.
According to sources of presidency, the members of Gac, the highest advisory body of the governor of the State of Lagos, met with Tinubu, with Sanwo-Oell present.
The meeting, which took place on Sunday at the president’s private residence in the State of Ikoyi, in Lagos, was present to the president of the GAC, Alhaji Tajudeen Obuse, other members and some best politicians of the Lagos State.
Among those who were not members of the gac during the meeting were the head of the president’s staff, RT. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamilaila; President of the Lagos State Assembly Chamber, RT. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa; and deputy governor of the State of Lagos, Dr. Obafemi Kadiri.
The members of the GAC present included a former representative of the Senatorial District of Lagos, the Senator Ganiyu Holrewaju Solomon and a former Minister of State for Defense, Musiliu Obanikoro.
According to sources during the meeting, heweds, who led the discussion, begged Tinubu to forgive the governor without going into the details of what caused the split.
It was said that the president had accepted this position and pronounced the rift established.
It will be remembered that the Rift had led to an open complaint by Sanwo-Oell by Tinubu, who refused to shake him in a public function in the Lagos state last week.
Thus also Sanwo-Ever was not recognized in a declaration from the presidency when he arrived through the presidential wing of Murtala Muhammed international airport, in the state of Lagos for the 50th anniversary of the Economic Community of States of West Africa and the holidays of Sallah.
A source of presidency had explained that the refusal of Tinubu to exchange a handshake with Sanwo-Oell at the inauguration of phase 1 of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway was his way of showing that he was angry with the governor.
The source stated that the dispute could be traced back to the loss that the president suffered in the presidential elections in the state of Lagos in the 2023 elections.
The source said that Tinubu was furious that while he lost the elections against Peter Obi of the Labor Party, Sanwo-Ever won his offer as a re-election, adding that the belief was that the governor did not pay attention to the presidential elections.
However, many are of the opinion that the question became more pronounced when Obasa has been removed as a speaker, presumably with the support of Sanwo-Oell.
The governor denied him several times.
Since then Obasa has been restored in its position.
Speaking after Sunday’s meeting, Sanwo-Olu told the Nigerian television authority that there was no dispute.
He said it was a question between father and son, adding: βHave you seen a discord?
βThere is none.
βThere are people who believe they are more Catholic than the Pope.
βThere are things you see people who cry more than mourning.
βFather and son are things that we will always make sure to clarify.
βIt’s nothing.
βHe is my father. He is my leader.
“And we are grateful to have given us the audience to enter and say goodbye.”
