Germany defeats Denmark and reaches the quarterfinals

Hosts Germany qualified for the quarter-finals of Euro 2024 after defeating Denmark 2-0 on Saturday.

Goals from Kai Havertz and Jamal Musiala in the second half sealed the victory for the Germans.

Nico Schlotterback thought he had given Germany the lead in the fifth minute but after VAR the goal was ruled out for a foul before a corner was taken.

The game was suspended 10 minutes from time due to lightning when English referee Michael Oliver ordered both teams to leave the field.

Three minutes into the second half, it was Denmark’s turn to see a goal disallowed by VAR after Joachim Andersen was offside.

A few minutes later, Andersen was penalized for handling the ball and a penalty was awarded to Germany.

Arsenal striker Havertz made no mistake as he slotted the ball into the bottom left corner to make it 1-0 in the 53rd minute.

Musiala then made it 2-0 in the 68th minute when he ran onto a long pass from Nico Schlotterback before beating the Danish goalkeeper.

Germany will now face Spain or Georgia, three-time European champions, in the quarterfinals.
