The United States said that its reduction in the validity of visas is part of a global update that concerns different countries and aims to align the issue of visas with the national security standards and immigration of the United States.
The United States, in its visa policy updated Tuesday, said that on July 8, 2025, most of the non -diplomatic visas issued to Nigerian citizens will be limited to the single entry and valid for only three months.
A declaration of the US mission, Nigeria said that clarification became necessary among the wrong ideas of the revised visa policy.
The federal government had stated that the cut of the visa may not be not connected to the refusal of Nigeria to accept deported Venezuelan prisoners and illegal immigrants from the United States.
In a shared declaration on its X handle, the mission clarified that the reduction of the validity of the visa was not the result of the position of Nigeria on the deportees of the third country, the introduction of e-visa policies or affiliations with groups such as BRICS.
The declaration stated: βThe US mission Nigeria wishes to face wrong ideas on the recent reduction in the validity of the visa for most of the non -immigrants in Nigeria and in other countries.
“This reduction is not the result of the position of any nation on the deportees of the third country, the introduction of e-visa policies or affiliations with groups such as BRICS. The reduction of validity is part of a global revision in progress on the use of US visas by other countries that use technical and safety benchmark to safeguard the immigration systems of the United States.
βWe appreciate our long -standing partnership with Nigeria and we are committed to working closely with Nigerian public and government officials to help them satisfy these criteria and parameters of reference, thus guaranteeing safe travel, lawful and mutually advantageous among our nations.
