The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Jamal Abdussalam, has reiterated the divisionโs commitment to working closely with the Department of State Services (DSS) to address security challenges in the Niger Delta region.
According to the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Affairs, 6 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, the GOC made this statement on Friday, September 13, 2024, during a courtesy visit by the newly appointed State Director, Security (SDS), Rivers State Command, Mr. Benedict Akinkumi, at the Divisional Headquarters in Port Harcourt.
Major General Abdussalam stressed the importance of information sharing among security agencies, noting that such cooperation is crucial to addressing the complexities of the operational environment. He noted that the 6th Division has worked together with other security agencies, leading to the successful execution of several operations.
The GOC noted that the division has intensified efforts against illegal oil sourcing, crude oil theft and other related crimes, which has increased the pressure on criminals, who are now resorting to other forms of criminal activities such as maritime piracy and kidnapping.
He said that identified outbreaks will receive targeted responses to stem these threats, stressing that the division remains committed to ensuring the security of the region.
Expressing confidence in Mr. Akinkumiโs capabilities, Major General Abdussalam welcomed the SDS and underlined the divisionโs readiness to continue with its proactive approach in fighting crime in the Niger Delta.
In his speech, Mr. Akinkumi called for guidance and cooperation from Division 6 at the start of his tenure in Rivers State.
He acknowledged the complexity of the security landscape and stressed the need for strong collaboration between security agencies to effectively manage the challenges.
Drawing on his previous experience in Bayelsa State, Mr. Akinkumi stressed the importance of interagency cooperation, especially with the Nigerian Army, to ensure smooth operations.
He reiterated the DSS’s commitment to addressing identified hotbeds of criminal activity in the State.
