Grandpa gives a 48-hour deadline to catch the killer of the OMMATA chairman

Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has given security agencies a 48-hour ultimatum to arrest those responsible for the killing of Chief Stephen Aniagu, Chairman of Ogbete Main Market Traders Association (OMMATA). Mbah stressed that under his administration, such serious crimes will not go unpunished.

Mbah also expressed his condolences to the family of Aniagu and the people of OMMATA. Aniagu was shot and killed by unknown men on the outskirts of Enugu on Saturday night.

In a statement released on Sunday, Mbah said, “My heart aches over the brutal murder of the Chairman of OMMATA, the late Chief Stephen Aniagu. This is a sad loss, not only to OMATTA as a whole but to the entire country.”

He continued, “In the meantime, I have ordered security agencies in the state to arrest the killers within 48 hours. As we have always asserted, and every criminal or criminal in the state should know by now, we have demonstrated the capacity to arrest them. We have the will, the technology and the resources to pursue, track, arrest and defeat these criminals.”

Mbah added, “Therefore, those who committed this atrocity have bitten off more than they can chew. They have killed, so neither they nor the government and security forces will sleep until all the perpetrators are arrested and justice is served according to the law as soon as possible.”

He assured the public, saying, “I urge Ndi Enugu to conduct their business within the law, as security of lives and property remains our priority as a government. Those who have decided to test our resolve will meet their doom like their predecessors.”

Expressing his sympathy to Chief Aniagu’s family, the community and OMMATA, Mbah reflected on Aniagu’s valuable services to the community and his state.

“The government and people of Enugu State share in our condolences. However, I urge them to take solace in the services he rendered to our dear country and the fact that his killers will never go unpunished. That is a promise,” he concluded.
