Group extortion resolution against the High Nigerian Commission in London

London (basic reporter) A group under the auspices of the Central Association of Nigerians in the United Kingdom (Canuk) has denied the accusations of extortion against the high Nigerian commission in London, stating that recent social media relationships claim that the NHC in London is committing to the extortion of the treatment of emergency travel certificates (ETCS) and both imprecise passports.

In a declaration jointly signed by Hon. Judith Akuta, 1st vice -president (Passport Matters), Rose P. Graham, advertising secretary and Tekena Douglas, assistant advertising secretary and made available to basic journalists on Wednesday 27 August 2025 Canuk, in the interest of clarity and transparency, we want to put the record straight.

“A video widely widespread by Dr. Chido AA on its management of social media has said that an emergency travel certificate was issued to an assignment of £ 132. To avoid doubt, the official and statutory expenses are as follows:

£ 120- Standard commission for an emergency travel certificate (etc.)

£ 12-optional Royal Mail Secure Olympine Service, for candidates who prefer not to collect etc in person

Standard commission of $ 230 for emission/renewal of the passport (64 -page booklet)

Standard commission of $ 150 for emission/renewal of the passport (32 -page booklet)

“It is important to emphasize that the emergency travel certificate is not” a normal document “, as presumed. Rather, it is a specially printed and crest document that brings the Nigerian coat of arms and built -in with safety characteristics to ensure authenticity and recognition by airport officials and borders control.

“As regards the specific case raised, the official registers confirm that Dr. Chido applied for etc for two individuals. The total sum of £ 264 paid (£ 120 × 2, more £ 12 × 2 for secure cumbersome) was therefore accurate, transparent and fully consistent with the structure of the established commissions.”

In the meantime, Hon. Judith Akuta, 1st vice -president (Passport Matters), has exploited the opportunity to remind all the Nigerians of the United Kingdom that applications for passports and emergency travel certificates should be made directly through the high Nigerian commission. The use of unauthorized intermediaries or channels exposes candidates for disinformation, additional expenses and unnecessary delays.

Speaking on behalf of the Association, president of Canuk Hon. Ily Maisanda reiterated Canuk’s commitment to promote cooperation with the high commission and with the Nigerians in the United Kingdom to support transparency, responsibility and provision of efficient services in the best interest of our community.
