Group of rights to El-Ruphai: honor the police invitation

The Human Rights Alliance of Nigeria (Hran) invited the former governor of the state of Kaduna, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, to honor the invitation extended to him by the Kaduna State Police Command.

El-Rufai has been summoned next to six best members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) by alleged conspiracy, incitement, malice and public peace disorder in the state.

In a declaration signed by his spokesman, Abraham Tar, the group expressed concern about the fact that instead of appearing before the police, the former governor presented a petition to the police service commission (PSC) against the state police commissioner, Muhammad Rabiu, accusing him of conduct and non -professional abuse.

Hran described the action as a contempt for the established authority and a inconvenient of a public figure of the El-Roma stature.

“We are saddened by the fact that instead of honoring the invitation, he decided to present a petition to the commission of the police service, an act that undermines the principles of responsibility and respect for the law,” he said.

The group observed that other former governors, including Yahaya Bello of the State of Kogi, Bafarawa Bafarawa of the State of Sokoto and Ayodele Fayose by Ekiti Zati, in the past they had honored the police invitations without hesitation.

“Since others in front of him underwent investigations when invited, there is no reason why El-Ruphai should act differently,” he said.

The group, however, urged political leaders throughout the country to establish good examples respecting institutions and democratic processes.
