Gunmen on Tuesday night attacked Umulogho community in Obowo local government area of Imo State and killed a policeman.
They also burned down part of the police station in the community.
Residents told reporters on Wednesday that the attackers stormed the area in a Sienna bus at around 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and began shooting sporadically.
According to them, the criminals spent more than an hour trying to find out the identities of the residents until they identified and killed the police officers.
State police spokesman Henry Okoye confirmed the incident.
He said that his party had deployed a special unit to the scene to pursue the perpetrators of this heinous crime.

Okoye said: “We received the report and have deployed our tactical units to do everything possible to arrest those responsible for the act.
“As I speak to you, I, along with the Police Commissioner and other service chiefs, intend to visit the scene to conduct a first-hand assessment.
“We also want to instill a certain sense of confidence in officers and citizens, so that they can carry on with their duties and business without fear.”
Imo and four other states in the South East have recorded several attacks by bandits hiding under the agitation for the Republic of Biafra since February 2021 with hundreds of police officers killed and facilities worth billions of naira destroyed during the period.
