Gunmen kidnap more than 20 medical students in Benue

A devastating incident has occurred in Benue State, where gunmen have kidnapped over 20 medical and dental students, along with a Hospital Officer.

The students from the University of Maiduguri and the University of Jos were on their way to the annual convention of the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS) in Enugu when they were ambushed.

The kidnapping occurred at about 5.30pm in the Otukpo area of ​​the state on Thursday, leaving the academic community in shock.

Benue State Police spokesperson, SP Catherine Anene, has confirmed the incident and assured that investigations are ongoing.

“We received a report of the kidnapping between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m., and we have commenced investigations into the matter,” Anene said.

The kidnapping of the students has raised concerns about the safety of educational travelers and increased insecurity in the region.
