Human rights groups demand investigation into politicians brutalized by security agents for allegedly criticizing Kaduna Governor Sani (Video)

United Nigerians Against Crimes (UNAC), a leading civil society organization, has strongly condemned the alleged brutality against a politician Alh. Abdulmajid Danbilki Komanda as captured in a viral video.

The video, which has sparked outrage online, reportedly shows men claiming to be security agents physically assaulting Komanda. UNAC believes the men may be affiliated with the Nigeria Police Force or the Department of State Services.

UNAC in a statement released on Friday, said it was “shocked” by the content of the video, which it said was a “flagrant violation of human rights and fundamental freedoms.” UNAC stressed that the Commander exercised his right to criticize Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State and that no citizen should face punishment for such expressions.

The group demanded an immediate investigation by the Inspector General of Police and the Director General of the Department of State Services. UNAC also urged Governor Sani to ensure that the alleged perpetrators appear for investigation within seven days. Failure to do so would prompt further action by UNAC, the nature of which is yet to be determined.

“In the disturbing video, the victim is seen being handcuffed, forced to kneel and subjected to inhumane treatment. These despicable acts constitute a flagrant violation of human rights and fundamental freedoms.

“We are shocked that security agents could stoop so low, using their authority to commit such a heinous crime. The Kaduna State Governor is not above the law and cannot be shielded from criticism. Every citizen has the right to express their opinions and beliefs without fear of reprisal.

“We demand an immediate investigation into this matter by the Inspector General of Police and the Director General of the Department of State Services. We also urge the Governor of Kaduna State to produce the said persons or order those involved to surrender themselves to security agencies for investigation within seven days of this press release or face possible further actions by this organization that may not be to his liking,” the statement read.

Dr. Abdullahi Yunusa Bayawo, Director-General of UNAC, emphasized the organization’s unwavering commitment to protecting citizens from such acts.

He stated that, “UNAC will not remain silent when citizens are abused and intimidated by those who claim to uphold the law.”

The statement concluded with a call for all Nigerians to condemn the violence and demand justice for Komanda. UNAC further reaffirmed its dedication to combating impunity and holding perpetrators accountable, regardless of their position or affiliation.
