Former Governor of the State Anambra and Presidential Candidate from the Labor Party (LP) in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, had been forced to clarify his congratulatory message to Olubadan which was just crowned from Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, following the tongue of the cycle from Backlash from Reno OMK.
In the message of good intentions to Olubadan on Saturday, Obi called him “my beloved brother,” but the phrase did not sit well with many people who saw the statement was not polite and insulted the traditional institutions of Joruba.
When criticizing Obi, a former president’s aide, Omokri, said the message showed the lack of Obi’s respect, cultural sensitivity and diplomatic Poland.

After the reaction, Obi, in a statement he posted on his X -Sunday grip, explained that his words and the use of the phrase were never intended to underestimate the throne, emphasizing that his message was proven to come out of good intentions.

He stated that he often used the expression of my dear brother to talk to people who were close to him and for whom he was very respectful, quoting his loving reference to Obi Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe, in the same term.
“Of course, there is no disrespect that is intended in the message of my good intentions to His Majesty. I am allied with my dear brother, who has just been named, His Majesty, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja,” Obi wrote.
“I have read the concerns of those who are harmed by what they consider to be an inappropriate addressing. I respect the protocol and authority, and I try, as much as possible, to obey them.
“However, those who followed me will notice that I often prefer to use the phrase” my beloved brother “when talking to people who are very close to me and for whom I really respect. I always refer to the noble Royal Igwe Alfred Achebe, Obi of Onitsha, as my older siblings in the same way with love.
“In the problem of mistakes, the motive is important. I am sure that all my words are proven from the good intentions that are not hindered,” Obi added.
