Nobel winner, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has rejected the call to assess the administration of President Tinubu.
The script writer, who spoke at Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Monday, clarified that he did not operate on an external schedule, encouraging the hope that he had to give a formal assessment of the Tinubu government on a one -year sign.
Soyinka insisted that she would offer current administrative evaluations of her own policies.
“People must stop trying to work on my schedule for me,” said Soyinka, in response to the demand that he fulfilled the previous promise to evaluate the administration after the first year of the office, which passed on May 29, 2024.
“I did not swallow alarm clock. I don’t understand why I have to wear alarm and say: ‘One year has passed, now, I have to make an assessment’ if there is nothing I want to talk about and if I’m busy elsewhere.”
Soyinka had previously visited Tinubu at her residence in Lagos in December 2023. At that time, he postponed commenting on administrative performance until after one year.

With the current government through the milestone, the public hopes for their assessment have grown, especially in the midst of increasing criticism of economic difficulties, inflation, and concerns of living costs.
However, the literary icon underestimated the idea that he himself held the responsibility for such an evaluation, noting that many votes in civil society actively spoke.
“Your business ‘hasn’t come to do this,’ I don’t understand it. Others do the same thing; this is a collective effort,” he said, referring to the activism of figures such as human rights lawyers Femi Falana, Journalist Dapo Olorunyomi, and political activist Omoyle Sowore.
He further argued that he had never complied with a ritual government assessment schedule, showing that he did not do it under the previous administration, including former President of Goodluck Jonathan, Muhammadu Buhari, and Olusegun Obasanjo.
“One year has run out, which means you have the right and I have the responsibility to respond when you call me a particular problem. But if you say that I will call a press conference and say: ‘One year is up, let’s make an assessment’ – the one – the one – the question I asked you: ‘Did I do that with Jonathan? Did I do that with Buhari?
