The legendary Nigerian musician, the evangelist Ebenezer Remilekun Aremu Olasuppo Obey-Fabiyi, widely known as the Ebenezer Obey commander, expressed profound gratitude to God for keeping him alive despite having faced numerous health challenges throughout his life.
Speaking to his 83rd birthday celebration of Thursday 3 April, Obey told the numerous times when it had been falsely dead, a painful reminder of his health battles.
“I can never forget the challenges for the health that I have faced in various points of my life, which has led to numerous surgical interventions. I thank God for granting me the victory over those tests. I have died more than 12 times, yet the verdict of God keeps me alive,” said Obey during his thanksgiving service.
The event, which took place in the mission of the decreasing Gospel, Lagos, was a beautiful testimony of God’s loyalty in his life.
The gathering was full of dignitaries, including the former president Olusgun Obasanjo and the king of Fuji, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (K1 De Ultimate), as well as a myriad of friends, fans and supporters from all over the world.
With an emotional heart, Obey continued: “This is the reason why I continue to live with a heart full of gratitude. Despite the challenges for the health that I endured – and the victories I celebrated – I travel still far and close to playing music at 83. This can be attributed only to God, and I return all the glory to him”.
The Master of Music has dedicated his 83rd year and 68 years as a successful musician acclaimed by the world to celebrate God’s unshakable loyalty in his life.
Obey, born in Idogo, in the state of Ogun, on April 3, 1942, is celebrated for his exceptional career that lasts over six decades.
From the humble beginnings in Lagos in the mid -1950s, he continued to form his first band, The International Brothers, in 1964. Over the years, his innovative fusion of Highlife and Jùjú Music, as well as his distinctive baritone voice, earned him global recognition.
After retiring in the Ministry of Music Nigerian Gospel in the early 90s, Obey’s music has always transported powerful Christian spiritual themes, resounding with the public through generations.
His musical ability, in particular his mastery of Yoruba’s guitar and percussion, made his timeless music, earning a special place in the hearts of Nigerians and music lovers all over the world.
The celebration of the birthday of Obey’s milestone was a powerful reminder of grace and strength that brought him through a life of musical success and personal challenges.
His lasting faith in God and his unshakable commitment to share his musical gifts with the world are the true distinctive features of his inheritance.
