IGP Egbetokun directed increased security ahead of the 64th independence celebrations

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun has ordered the implementation of enhanced security protocols nationwide in preparation for Nigeria’s 64th independence anniversary.

The IGP emphasized the deployment of adequate human and tactical resources to ensure a safe environment for the celebrations.

In a statement released on Monday, Police Spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi announced that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, will strengthen security at major event venues and major highways across the country to reduce potential threats to lives and property during the celebration.

The statement, titled “IG orders watertight security, celebrates Nigeria’s 64th anniversary, orders tough crackdown on criminals,” detailed the IGP’s directive: “As we celebrate our country’s 64th Independence, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun , has ordered tight security across the country to create a safe and conducive environment for the citizens of our great country to celebrate this momentous occasion.”

To ensure the smooth running of the celebrations, Egbetokun advised all police officers involved in various operations during the celebrations to maintain professionalism.

“In addition, the IGP has directed all personnel deployed for various operations during the celebrations to be polite and firm in their interactions with the public,” the statement continued.

Egbetokun also took this opportunity to extend greetings to the Nigerian people, encouraging reflection on the nation’s journey, including its triumphs and challenges. He stressed the importance of honoring the sacrifices made by the founding fathers of the country and subsequent generations who have contributed to Nigeria’s growth, unity and progress.

The IGP reiterated the Nigerian Police’s commitment to ensuring national security, promoting peaceful coexistence and upholding the rule of law. He stated, “We are dedicated to serving our community with integrity, compassion and professionalism. As we move forward, let us rekindle a sense of national pride, foster unity, and work together towards a brighter future for all Nigerians.”
