The Imo State Council of Football Referees has congratulated Sir Kelechi Mejuobi on his elevation as President of the Nigerian Football Referees Association (NFRA), describing it as a landmark achievement in the history of refereeing in the country.
In a statement signed by its General Secretary, Nwaegbe Uchechukwu, the Council said Mejuobi’s elevation, ratified by the full Executive Council, represents the first time an indigene of Imo State has reached the highest position in the body of national referees.
The Council commended Mejuobi’s dedication, diligence and long-standing commitment to the development of football refereeing in Nigeria, noting that his rise reflects years of hard work and professionalism.
He said his achievements not only brought pride to Imo State but also set a new benchmark for aspiring umpires within the state and beyond.
Expressing confidence in his leadership, the Council said Mejuobi possesses the vision and capacity to reposition refereeing in Nigeria and raise its standards in line with global best practices.
The statement adds that the Council looks forward to a progressive tenure under his leadership, while praying for wisdom and success when he assumes office.
Mejuobi’s appointment is widely seen as a significant milestone for the Imo State football community and a boost to the profile of refereeing in Nigeria.
