Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed said on Wednesday that his recent criticism of President Bola Tinubu over the #EndBadGovernance protests in the state was constructive and well-intentioned.
The governor stated this before the commencement of the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting in Bauchi.
Mohammed last week said the president’s policies and programmes were not in the interests of the Nigerian people.
He also argued that President Tinubu’s August 4 broadcast, in which he called on protesters to stop protesting and start a dialogue, was “very empty.”
Several political leaders in the state, including former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, and a sitting Senator, Shehu Buba, have condemned the governor for his actions.
In his remarks at the meeting, Mohammed noted that his outburst was a wake-up call to the Federal and state governments to address the plight of their citizens.

He said: “I am speaking constructively as an opposition person and someone who means well for the president, the government and the people of Nigeria.
“I didn’t do it to offend or insult anyone.
“We must listen when their (citizens) cries are very loud about poor governance and various limitations and shortcomings, where the expectations of our people have not been met.
“We have limited resources to manage and that is why I say we have to use the little resources we have, to do many things.
“Nobody cares, nobody will listen to you when you start complaining and blaming our predecessors for the shortcomings that exist.”
The governor said it was not right to place all the blame for poor governance on the federal government because the states were also at fault.
“We don’t just blame the federal government for everything.
“We (countries) also have to look inside ourselves, do a quick analysis of ourselves, and make sure we are doing things that can put food on the table and make things easier.
“We know that we are not responsible for national policies and programs, but we must be able to implement national policies as loyal federalists.
“At the same time, we have to look at the challenges that we face and make sure that we are connected to the community,” he added.
Mohammed stressed that the governors were not immune from what he said, and that this was not about partisan politics, but rather, about responsibility.
