Independence: FG declares Wednesday public holiday – Thage

The Federal Government declared on Wednesday 1 October 2025, a public holiday to score the 65th anniversary of Nigeria’s independence.

By announcing the holidays on Monday, the Minister of the Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, said that the day should serve from a moment of reflection for the Nigerians on the journey of the nation since 1960.

The minister, in a statement issued through the permanent secretary of the Ministry, Magdalene Ajani, congratulated the citizens at home and abroad, describing the anniversary as a reminder of the unity, resilience and shared fate of the country.

He urged the Nigerians to renew their commitment for national ideals, underlining that the renewed agenda of the hope of President Bola Tinubu offers a path to rebirth, economic transformation and collective prosperity.

“With the patriotism and cooperation supported, Nigeria will continue to thrive in peace, progress and development”, assured Tunji-Ojo, while extending the best wishes for a memorable celebration of the day of independence.
