India wants Liberia’s voice against terrorism

India is rallying Liberia and the rest of Africa in its campaign against terrorism after recent attack from neighboring Pakistan.

Monrovia, Liberia, June 3, 2025 – The Government of India is seeking the support of Liberia and the rest of Africa in its war against terrorism following an incursion into its border by a terrorist group from Pakistan in April, leaving 26 persons dead.

An All-Party Delegation from India is visiting the country and has met with President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Foreign Minister Sara Beyslow Nyanti, Senate President Pro-Tempore Yongblee Karnga Lawrence, and Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon.

The 10-member delegation is headed by a member of the Indian Parliament, Dr. Shrikant Eknath Shinde. They were accompanied by the Indian Ambassador near Monrovia, Manoj Bihari Verma.

“Liberia is a voice of the AU; we need a one voice to ensure that this does not take place again. Be the voice, stand with India; this is not an attack on India alone, but an attack on Liberia and Africa”, said Dr. Shinde, when members of his delegation hosted a press conference in Monrovia late Monday, June 2, 2025.

He disclosed that the All-Party Delegation has visited Sierra Leone, Democratic Republic of Congo, UAE prior to coming to Liberia, with a message of peace, adding “The Team is going to different countries to rally solidarity against terrorism.”

The Delegation says as Liberia vies for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council, the country should use its good offices at the high table to speak against terrorism and put Pakistan on the limelight of countries that harbor and support terrorism.

“India has been speaking alone; it needs a global voice”, Dr. Dr. Shinde emphasized.

The Delegation noted that Pakistan has become breeding ground for terrorists, recalling a Pakistani military barracks being used to host Osman Bin Laden for 10 years following the 9/11 attack on the United States.

India responded militarily following the April attack, targeting   nine (9) terrorist bases inside Pakistan, which escalated tension between the two neighboring countries.

Pakistan retaliated with series of attacks in Indian border towns, killing dozens of civilians, prompting a global call for de-escalation of the crisis, with President Donald Trump offering to mediate.

Meanwhile, as India seeks solidarity from Africa and other friendly countries the Foreign Office in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad confirmed on Monday that the Pakistani Government on Monday deployed two high-level delegations abroad to counter what it called India’s recent aggressive posturing.

According to report, these teams aim to present Pakistan’s stance in regional tensions and highlight Islamabad’s commitment to peace diplomacy.

The first delegation has already arrived in New York and includes senior politicians, former foreign ministers, ambassadors, and federal ministers. Their schedule includes meetings with the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, and others. Story by Jonathan Browne
