Inec Debunks Report on New Party Registration

The Independent National Election Commission (Inec) has denied reports on the registration of new political parties in the country.

The commission made clarification in a statement about its X -grip on Wednesday.

The report emerged on Tuesday that the Commission had registered two new parties – independent Democrats (ID) and the People’s Democratic Movement (PDM).

However, the Election Agency, in the statement, illustrates a report on the registration of the parties by several social media platforms as fake.

The statement reads: “NEC’s attention has been interested in fake reports that made a round of registration of two new political parties, namely” Independent Democrats (ID) “and” People’s Democratic Movement (PDM) “.

“To avoid doubts, the commission has not registered any new party. The number of political parties registered today in Nigeria is 19, and nothing is added.”

The commission considering that ID and PDM were registered as political parties in August 2013.

Furthermore Inec remembered that the parties were registered in February 2020, in accordance with the 225A section of the 1999 Constitution.

Therefore, it urged the Nigerians to ignore the report.
