Inec expands the registration of voters, confirming the surge of new registrants

The Independent National Election Commission (INEC) has expanded the Sustainable Voter Registration (CVR) training in the State of Anambra in three days, after a strong public appeal and the impressive number of voters.

This was revealed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Commissioner and Chair of the National Inec, the Information Education and Voter Committee, Sam Oluumekun.

“CVR in the State of Anambra ended today. However, in response to the appeal of residents, the commission with this extended the training for three days. Now it will end on Sunday, July 2025,” the statement said.

Voter registration exercises are in preparation for the Election of the Governor of the State Anambra which is scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025.

Providing updates on ongoing exercises, the Commission said he was happy with the level of involvement of voters who met the requirements in all states. On Wednesday, July 16, a total of 96,085 new voters were registered in just nine days, representing an average of more than 10,600 daily registrations.

Inec noted, “The Commission held a regular weekly meeting today, Thursday, July 17, 2025.

“Among other problems, the meeting reviewed the ongoing preparation for the election of governors outside the upcoming cycle in the state of Anambra and provided further renewal of the application for registration by new political parties.

“The Commission is happy with the number of voters in the State of Anambra and CVR peaceful behavior in all 326 registration centers in the state.

“Until yesterday, Wednesday, July 16, 2025, 96,085 new voters have been successfully registered in nine days. On average, the commission registered more than 10,600 voters per day.”

Outside of the new registration, the statement revealed that 12,595 voters submitted an application for their voter registration transfer either inside or outside the state, while 7,061 people submitted an request for an update to their records or replacement of lost or damaged permanent voter cards (PVC).

Inec also convinced the public about continuous transparency during the process.

“After that, the commission will display registers for claims and objections by citizens as determined by the law, followed by further cleaning of data using an automatic biometric identification system,” he said.

“Furthermore, details of the detailed registrants based on age, gender, work and disability will be published for public information.

“In this initial stage, 56,017 (58%) new registrants are women while 50,429 (52.48%) are young people between ages 18 and 34.”

Meanwhile, Inec confirmed that they continued to receive requests from new associations that aspire to become political parties.

“Meanwhile, the commission has received five more intentions from the association who sought registration as a political party. This has carried the amount received so far to 134.

“The details of the new association, which shows the proposed name, the acronym, logo, address, and temporary leadership are published on our website and other platforms for public information,” added the Commission.
