Edo Elections: INEC Extends Voting Time in PUs Where Voting Started Late

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended voting hours in areas where the opening of polling stations was delayed during Saturday’s gubernatorial election in Edo State.

INEC National Commissioner and member of its Committee on Information and Voter Education, Mohammed Haruna, made this known in a statement released on Saturday afternoon.

He said the Commission continues to monitor the ongoing Edo State governorship election from our operations room at the National Headquarters in Abuja.

“Our monitoring indicates an early start to the polls at many polling stations, but there are also reports of a late start in some locations.

“To ensure that no voter is disenfranchised, the Commission wishes to reiterate that, in line with our Rules and Guidelines, voting will be extended wherever it started late and will continue until the last voter in the queue who arrived at the polling station by 2.30pm has cast his or her vote.

Accordingly, we have drawn the attention of our office in Edo State to ensure that, where necessary, there is adequate power supply from our standby generators in the affected polling units or vote collection centres,” Haruna added.
