The Independent National Election Commission (Inec) on Wednesday issued a final list of 16 candidates for the November 8 Governor Election in the State of Anambra.
Commissioner and Chair of the National Inec, the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Oluumekun, revealed this in a statement issued in Abuja.
He said the election campaign would begin on June 11.
Olumekun added that with publications, there was no withdrawal or replacement of further candidates to be permitted, unless there was a death before the election date as determined by Section 34 (1) of the Election Law.
He stated that 16 political parties uploaded the details of their candidates (EC9 form), at the deadline at 18:00 on May 12.
The spokesman noted that in line with the provision of Article 33 of the 2022 Election Law, political parties were empowered to replace their candidates who voluntarily withdraw from the race.
Some candidates are Governor of Charles Soludo from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the Democratic Party (PDP) Eze Nwafo Jude, Nwosu John from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), all Progressive Congress (APC) Ukachukwu Nicholas and George Mogbalu from the Labor Party.

The statement reads: “Thus, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) conducted a new main election to replace its candidates, while four political parties replaced their vice candidates for their governor.
“They are Accord (A), African Action Congress (AAC), Labor Party (LP) and the new Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP).
“The deadline for withdrawing and replacing candidates is Monday, June 2.
“As a result, the commission hereby issued a final list of candidates who will fight in November 8, 2025, the Election of Anambra Governor.
“16 out of 19 registered parties participated in the election, where the African Action Congress (AAC) and the National Rescue Movement (NRM) have nominated female candidates, while six parties lowered the pair of women.
“They are Accord (A), all Progressive Congress (APC), People’s Party (APP), Boot Party (BP), Labor Party (LP) and Zenith Labor Party (ZLP).
“There is no party nominating people with disabilities as candidates. In terms of age, candidates range from 36 and 71 years.”
Olumekun said that the complete list of candidates based on parties, age, gender and academic qualifications had been uploaded on the commission website and social media platforms for public information.
