A recent investigation by Platform Times has revealed that the administration of the Governor of the State of Ogun, Dapo Inhabitun, received a total of 335.81 billion of federal allocations between May 2019 and April 2025.
The data, coming from the Budgit civic technological platform, cover a period of six years of monthly disbursement from the Federation account and highlights the tax affluents in the state of Ogun under the management of inhabitants since it succeeded Senator Ibikunle Amosun in 2019.
A rupture of the figures shows a constant growth of allocations over the years, with the highest influx recorded in 2024-a year after the elections-when the state received ₦ 104.04 billion of billions, while the lowest was in the year hit by Covid of 2020, with ₦ 40.66 billion.
The survey on the times of the platform revealed that monthly allocations peaks in August 2024, when the state received ₦ 11.07 billion, while the lowest monthly provision was 2.42 billion of 2.42 billion in March 2020, coinciding with the global economic recession triggered by the pandemic.
Breakdown year by year:
2025 (January -APR): ₦ 35.66 billion
2024: ₦ 104.04 billion
2023: ₦ 79.28 billion
2022: ₦ 53.63 billion
2021: ₦ 47.70 billion
2020: ₦ 40.66 billion
2019 (May -Dotto): ₦ 25.84 billion
In total, the state of Ogun has received ₦ 335.81 billion in six years from the federal government under the administration of the governor inhabitu.
The time of the platform have further gathered that the strong increase in allocations reflects the wider tax expansion of Nigeria and the fluctuations of oil revenues, in particular post-crovides.
However, the major allocations have also rekindled the demands of greater transparency and audit of value for money in state expenses.
The civil society organizations challenged the state government to publish detailed relationships on how the funds were spent, noting the persistent infrastructure deficit and the gaps in development in local governments.
“This level of allocation requires a commensurate development,” said Ayodeji Folarin, a political analyst. “Open budget is needed, performance audit and inclusion of citizens in monitoring public spending.”
Despite the significant affluent, the questions persist on the profile of Ogun’s debt, on health funding and on the rhythm of the delivery of the infrastructures.
Governor inhaboun, who marks six years in office this year, should present a management relationship in view of his last year in charge.
Analysts believe that this offers an opportunity to explain how over 335 billion federal allocations have impactful on the socio-economic panorama of the state.
