Injury Blow for Super Eagles As Taiwo Awoniyi Out of Zimbabwe Tie, Returns To Forest

Nottingham Forest’s striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, is set to miss Nigeria’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe.

The striker sustained a groin injury during the Super Eagles’ 1-1 draw against Lesotho on Thursday.

The 26-year-old, who recently returned to action after a previous groin injury, started against Crocodiles but was replaced by OGC Nice’s Terem Moffi in the match.

As Awoniyi heads back to his club for further assessment, Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro will rely on Victor Boniface, Moffi, and Umar Sadiq to fill the void.
