The Nigerian Youth Congress (NYC) asked for collaborative efforts to encourage tolerance, dialogue and unity among all the Nigerians in the face of growing global instability.
The president of New York, Engr. Jethro Annum, made the call in a statement to commemorate the international peace day of 2025 with the theme, “Act now for a peaceful world”.
ENGR Annum reiterated New York’s commitment under his leadership for the construction of peace as an essential for national development and urged young people and Nigerians well intent on supporting initiatives that reduce socio-economic tensions through the occupation and creation of jobs.
The New York praised the efforts of the office of the President’s National Security Councilor and of all the security agencies for their roles in guaranteeing a peaceful company that underlines that peace remains the “foundation of development”.
“Of course, peace is the foundation of development and New York is resolved in supporting the initiatives that feed tolerance, dialogue and unity. Because without peace, there can be no development and the true empowerment will be a mirage,” he said.
Encr Annum has invited governments, the private sector, civil society, religious organizations and international partners to collaborate more deeply with young people to support peace and increase employment.
βAs an organization committed to cultivating the peace and empowerment of young people, our unshakable commitment to build a culture of peace among the young Nigerians and through the communities is indisputable.
“In line with its tradition of encouraging excellence, the International Peace Day of this year has been marked with particular recognition and honors for individuals, organizations and interested parties that have shown an exceptional commitment for the construction of peace, youth employment and the creation of jobs in Nigeria.
βThese prizes will highlight those whose investments and initiatives have had a direct impact on the communities, have enhanced young people and have reduced socio -economic tensions. Since young people are the heart rate of our nation, celebrating the champions of peace and the creation of jobs is our small way of being grateful.
“With this, we hope to encourage further investments in the development of young people and inspire a new generation of leaders who will transform our company with innovation, inclusion and compassion,” added the press release.
