The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has called on the Yobe state Independent Electoral Commission to shift the proposed local government elections earlier slated for November this year.

The state chairman of IPAC, Comrade Bala Mohammed, made the called Tuesday while briefing journalist in Damaturu, the state capital.
He advised the commission to fix a new date for the election after the harvesting period.

Comrade Mohammed stated that 17 undersigned state chairmen of the various political parties want the state electoral commission to shift the proposed election for obvious reasons to allow the electorate to actively participate in the exercise.

He said: “The reasons is that the rainy season came in very late. The rain has intensified with people heavily engaged in farming activities. Farmers should be allowed to farm till dry season”.

He noted that this is in the interest of justice and fair play,.
“The state electoral commission should postpone and fix a new date preferably after the harvest to allow the people to actively participate,” he said.
