General Manager of the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), dr. Joseph Ochogwu expressed heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased former president Muhammadu Buhari, who passed on Sunday in London.
The DG recognized the immense contribution and commitment of the former president in the promotion and renewal of a culture of peace and conflict resolution through non -Kinetic means in Nigeria and Africa during its mandate as president.
He added that the president’s policies had an impact on millions, promoting peace initiatives that have advanced the cause of peace and security not only in Nigeria but also on the continent.
He also observed that the deceased president will be remembered for his resilience, integrity and intentional leadership aimed at promoting a peaceful and prosperous nation.
The entire IPCR community is saddened by the sudden news of his disappearance. May Allah (SWT) forgive his deficiencies, reward his good deeds and grant him eternal rest.
In the meantime, the efforts to put an end to the recurring crises in Benue’s state received a push as the parties concerned critical from Benue, Nasarawa and Taraba met in Makurdi for a high -level peace construction seminar facilitated by the British foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCdo) and the spring program.
The strategic meeting, which brought together traditional leaders, including the Tor Tiv, the best government officials and the interested parties of the community, focused on facing the key drivers of conflicts in the region, in particular illegal extraction, limit disputes and wider worries for safety.
Speaking, the general manager of the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), Dr. Joseph Ochogwu underlined the importance of a collaborative and multi-stakeholder approach to resolve long-standing issues that afflict the region.
“The Tor Tiv and all the other critical interested parties of Benue, Nasarawa and Taraba were all present, trying to find critical areas to address the issues related to illegal action, border issues and other issues that have read the Benue Valley crisis. It is peace and security in that area.”
The DG also said: “The Benue Valley crisis has many layers – legal mining, disputed boundaries and tensions of the community – and only a unified front can produce lasting solutions”.
The deputy governor of the state of Benue, the general manager of the Benue State Peace Building Commission and other representatives of relevant agencies, civil society and security clothes were also present.
