The independent national electoral commission said that the petition in search of the call of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Auduaghan, representing Kogi Central, did not meet the constitutional requirements.
In a declaration published on its social media platforms on Thursday, Iner said that the petition did not satisfy the provisions of section 69 (a) of the Nigerian Constitution.
“The petition for the call of the senator who represents the central senatorial district of Kogi did not meet the requirement of section 69 (a) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended). Shortly”, announced the Commission.
Incen had received the petition, according to what reported, signed by voters recorded by Kogi Central, asking for the removal of Akpoti-Auduaghan from the National Assembly.
According to the electoral body, the presentation included six bags of documents, which presumably containing signatures from over half of the 474,554 voters recorded in 902 units of polls in 57 departments that embraced five areas of the local government: Adavi, Ajaokuta, Ogori/Maingo, Okehi and Okene.
The Commission has yet to issue further details on the verification process that led to the refusal of the petition.
