Just in: FG declares public holiday in honor of the deceased president
The Federal Government of Nigeria declared Tuesday 15 July 2025 as a public holiday in honor of the deceased former president Muhammadu Buhari, GFFR, who passed away on Sunday 13 July 2025 in a London hospital.
A declaration by the permanent secretary of the Ministry of the Interior, said dr. Magdalene Ajani, this is being promoted by the seven days of the national mourning declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR.
According to the declaration, the honorable Minister of the Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, following the approval of his excellence, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
“The minister said that the holiday is a sign of respect for the service of the deceased president to the nation, his contribution to the democratic journey of Nigeria and his lasting inheritance in governance and national development.
“President Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria with dedication, integrity and an unshakable commitment for the unity and progress of our great nation. This holiday day offers all the Nigerians to reflect on his life, the leadership and the values he supported,” said the minister.
He urged citizens to use the day to honor the memory of the deceased president promoting peace, patriotism and national cohesion, in line with his vision of a prosperous and united Nigeria.
As previously announced, the national flags will fly by tree for the seven days of mourning from Sunday 13 July 2025.
The federal government extends its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased president, to the people of the state of Katsina and all the Nigerians, while praying for the peaceful rest of his soul.
