Senator Orji Uzor Kalu defended his recent appearance in the Senate wearing a dress with a brand with an “Tinubu 2027” inscription, describing it as a fashionable garment made in ABA and rejecting the criticisms that clothing was equivalent to political syncophyman.
The former governor of the state of Abia and the chief whisk of the ninth Senate made the comments during a live interview on the Channels television policy today Monday evening.
Reacting to the public tumult and media reactions following his choice of clothing during the plenary, Kalu said:
βIt’s a very nice dress. I forgot to wear it for this interview. I would have worn it. I have thousands. Most people like.
“Who would have done that dress different from ABA Sarrors? Was made in ABA, dyed to ABA and delivered to ABA. They are only the ABA people who are laborious who can do it”.
When he was asked if he would have wore the same clothing again despite the public backlash, he replied with confidently:
“It is very fashionable and I will wear it again. I have it in different colors.”
The interviewer pushed further, indicating the critics who accused him of sycophaneness and premature campaigns. Kalu greeted the suggestion, affirming:
“Can a man like me be a sicophantic? I run for anything else than to return to the Senate. It is not political sycophaneness. I am a man who cannot be a sycophanic. I wore it because it is a uniform for 2027”.
If his action was an approval by President Bola Tinubu for a second term, the senator did not hesitate;
“What’s wrong with this? I would be very happy to accept that I am a responsible for the unofficial campaign for President Tinubu and do the job for him. I have nothing to regret to do that job.”
He added that there was no law that prevented him from wearing his dress and that he was exercising his rights:
“We are a political party and there must be the activity of a political party. We have had a medium -term evaluation of our party in which all the interested parties gathered.
“It’s my dress and I have the right to wear everything I like. There is freedom of association and freedom of speech.”
When asked if his action could be seen as inappropriate given the challenges that the Nigerians are facing, Kalu replied:
“You are people who take people who see something wrong. I don’t see anything wrong with getting indossible.”
The senator insisted on the fact that even if his choice of clothing aroused debate, he was not worried.
“Iner has not raised the ban on preparations for the campaign but we are preparing.”
Senator’s observations are likely to intensify the political discourse within the sentence of all progressives (APC), while the conversations around the 2027 elections begin to emerge.
His not sorry position reports to early alignment and mobilization around a potential second -term offer for President Tinubu.
Senator Kalu, who represents the Senatorial District of the North Abia, remains a prominent voice within the party and has continued to publicly affirm his support for Tinubu leadership, both in words and now in clothing.
