The Kano State government has confirmed 10 deaths following a diphtheria outbreak in the state.
The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran, confirmed the news to journalists on Saturday in Kano.
He said the victim died within a week.
The commissioner added that 40 other people were receiving treatment at hospitals across the state.

He said: “What we have officially is that we recorded 10 deaths from the diphtheria outbreak in the last one week, from Monday to today.
“And as of this morning, 40 patients are still lying in bed.
“We have activated diphtheria treatment centres in every local government area across the state.
“We appeal to residents who find patients with these symptoms to visit health service centers and not to visit health facilities in big cities, in order to stop the spread of this disease.”
